SWMS Live Electrical Work

The live electrical work method statement is assessing risk after identifying the hazards connected with undertaking work on live electrical systems and the subsequent implementation of risk controls to manage risk.

  • Electrical SWMS safe work method statements require that hazard control measures be implemented per procedures for electrical safety when working on live electrical equipment.

Live Electrical Work Method Statement

Workplace Safety has conducted a comprehensive hazard analysis for live electrical work, e.g. working on live electrical systems and developed risk control measures per the hierarchy of controls for identified hazards.

  • Assess and review health and safety practices in the workplace to control risk

  • Consultation with employees on health and safety matters for the identification of hazards with work on live electrical equipment

  • Risk assessment to identify workplace hazards and risks that may potentially pose an immediate threat of death or serious injury

  • Health and safety planning for working live electrical, e.g. safety precautions when working on live electrical circuits

  • WHS consultation and participation processes ensure adequate health and safety communication

  • Workplace environmental hazards, e.g. working in hazardous areas, electrical hazard, fall from height

  • Tripping hazards in the workplace resulting in injuries caused by slips trips and falls

  • Implementation of controls for live electrical work, e.g. isolation of hazards and services when working on live electrical circuits, permit to work on live electrical systems

  • Health and safety at work information for employees to manage risk and compliance

  • Electrical testing equipment, e.g. electrical test device used when working on live electrical equipment

  • Insulated tools when live working on electrical circuits, e.g. electrical live working tools

  • Electrical hazards and safety measures for overhead power lines, e.g. safe distance from power lines, working safely near live electrical apparatus

  • Contact with energised electrical equipment resulting in electrocution death, electrical shock and potential injuries from electrical shock

  • Electrical spotter to warn persons working live electrical, e.g. live electrical work hazards

  • Working on live electrical equipment per live electrical working guidelines adhering to electrical live working procedures, e.g. how to work on live electrical

  • Live electrical work incomplete requiring the implementation of electrical hazard control measures per live electrical work risk assessment

  • Working at heights on electrical safety ladders and electrically insulated aerial work platforms for work on live electrical systems

  • Hazardous chemicals used in connection with working on live electrical

  • Hazardous manual tasks in connection with undertaking work on live electrical systems

  • Personal protective equipment, e.g. PPE for live electrical work, gloves for live electrical work and electrical PPE clothing

  • Health and safety training for workers, e.g. live electrical work training

  • Workplace housekeeping incorporating material handling and storage safety

  • Legislative and regulatory requirements for compliance with WHS legislation, e.g. code of practice live electrical work, live electrical work regulations and work health and safety standards

  • Monitor and review of risk controls, e.g. assessment and review the effectiveness of control measures

  • Electrician tasks and activities in connection with working on live electrical systems

Live Electrical Work Procedure

Live electrical work safe work procedure shall assess the risk of construction high-risk activities involved with working on live electrical equipment.

High-risk work activities that may expose workers to WHS hazards are likely to include but not be limited to:

  • Working on or near live electrical equipment, e.g. live parts of electrical equipment

  • Implementing an isolation procedure for electrical equipment to ensure electrical equipment safety

  • Lockout electrical equipment per live electrical work requirements

  • Work on live electrical, e.g. working with live electrical wires

  • Use of electrical testing tools, e.g. live electrical testing

  • Other working live electrical hazards.
