Spotter SWMS

The spotter safe work method statement SWMS assesses the risk after identifying the hazards connected with electrical spotter duties when working on or near live electrical equipment and implementing control measures to manage the risk.

  • Safe work method statement for electrical works requires hazard control measures to be implemented per that of safe working procedures with electricity when working on or near live electrical equipment.

Safety Observer Safe Work Method Statement

Workplace Safety has conducted a comprehensive job hazard analysis for electrical installation, namely the methods used to fit off electrical installations per electrical safe work practices and have developed risk control measures per the risk controls hierarchy.

  • Assess and review WHS practices in the workplace to control risk

  • WHS consultation for the identification of hazards when working on or near live electrical equipment

  • Risk assessment to identify hazard and risk in the workplace that may potentially pose an immediate threat of death or serious injury

  • Health and safety planning for electrical work requiring the attendance of an electrical spotter, e.g. spotting electrical hazards

  • WHS consultation and participation processes ensure adequate health and safety communication

  • Workplace environmental hazards, e.g. work in a confined space, falling from heights

  • Slip trips and falls in the workplace having the potential to cause death or serious injury

  • Implementation of controls when working on or near live electrical equipment, e.g. isolation of hazards and services for electrical installations in hazardous areas

  • Health and safety information for controlling risk

  • Electrical spotter to warn persons working in the vicinity of energised electrical equipment, e.g. electrical hazards

  • Electrical control measures for contact with energised electrical equipment resulting in electrocution, electric shock and electrical injuries

  • Live electrical work hazards shall be per electrical live working procedures, e.g. implementation of control measures for electrical hazards

  • Work at heights on ladders for electrical work, scaffolding and elevated work platform to perform electrical spotter duties

  • Hazardous manual handling in connection with spotting electrical hazards when working on or near live electrical equipment

  • Personal protective equipment, e.g. PPE for electricians, electrical protective equipment

  • Work health and safety training for electrical safety observer, e.g. electrical spotter training

  • Housekeeping at workplace per housekeeping policy and procedures

  • Legislative and regulatory requirements for compliance with WHS legislation, e.g. managing electrical risks in the workplace code of practice and WHS industry standards

  • Monitor and review of risk controls, e.g. implement and monitor work health and safety practices

  • Electrician tasks and activities in connection with electrical spotting

SWMS Electrical

Electrical Spotter SWMS

Spotter SWMS shall assess the risk of high-risk activities involved in spotting electrical hazards per electrical spotter regulations.

High-risk activities in construction that may expose an electrical spotter to hazards and risks are likely to include but not be limited to:

  • Working on or near live electrical equipment, e.g. hazards of electricity

  • Implementing an isolation procedure for electrical equipment to ensure safety with electrical installation and equipment

  • Working near live electrical apparatus per electrical live-work policy and procedure

  • Work at height as a high voltage safety observer

  • Other electrical spotter requirements per working on live electrical equipment risk assessment
